Premise - Final Reflective Statement

I chose to do my Premise Project based on creating an isometric cyberpunk themed interior and exterior scene. During this project I feel that I have evolved significantly with my modelling skills in Autodesk Maya. On the project before this I was modelling things with much simplicity, such as once time when I modelled a sofa in November using only 4 bevelled cubes placed together and now for my Premise project I have seen my improvement as I have modelled, what I think looks like a realistic sofa, making sure to add dents in the seat to make it look like it has been sat on and aged over time. I also learnt to texture in a basic way in Substance Painter and found a way to implement this into my project, by texturing the sofa.

In the past few months I have found myself modelling things much more detailed and intricately to the point they look realistic and I end up super pleased with my outcomes. I have enjoyed modelling and designing a Cyberpunk themed world as I enjoy looking at images of Cyberpunk Isometric cities that other people have made and I was happy to be able to finally implement it into my own work. I have learnt so much about Arnold Mesh Lights and how to make them fit nicely in the scene. I enjoy seeing the final outcome of the work I have created when I render the scene.

I struggled a little with feeling as though I didn't have enough in my scenes even though I felt stuck at some points with what else to even add but as time went on I came up with many more ideas, taking inspiration from reference images to make my scenes more characterful.

I realised as I was creating my scenes that my interior scene looks much more realistic than my exterior scene. I decided to keep it this way to show my range of skills as to how I can make more cartoony environments and also I can adapt to make more realistic game style environments too.

I enjoyed creating the character art for this project, as much as I admittedly struggled with it. I was impressed with my outcome and feel as though Pixel really does fit into the scene I had created for her.

To conclude, I feel I have really honed into my skills this year, especially when it comes to modelling environments in Maya, I have learnt to work and improve my skills independently and only ask for help when I truly needed it. I have spent lots of time with Maya this year getting to know the ins and outs and feel I can successfully model to an impressive standard considering my limited time with Maya, and I am excited to take my skills into the summer and consistently develop them more and more so that, come 3rd year, I can implement them into my Minor and Major projects.
