Film Review - The Incredibles
Story vs Plot
For our 5th film lecture we had to watch The Incredibles and look at the structure analysis of Story vs Plot.
The story is about the who, what and the where of a movie whereas the Plot is about the how, when and the why everything in the story happens.
When looking at the Incredibles it is evident that the Story is, Former ex superheroes Bob and Helen, formally known as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, live in Metroville with their children, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack after the public turned against superheroes. Bob loves his family but hates his mundane life.
The Story
The who: Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash, Jack-Jack.
The what: They are former superheroes who were forced to live a mundane life after the public turned on them and all other superheroes.
The where: In Metroville.
The Plot
The How: Bob got to his situation by feeding into the fact that he wanted the best of both worlds by providing for his family but also being his Superhero self.
The When: The movie is set in 1962. Bob begins his call to adventure when he is called to an island to help battle an out of control robot.
The Why: Is that Bob feels the need to want to help others so this leads him to make the decisions to work with Edna.
I have always enjoyed this movie and loved watching it as a child. It is nice to look into it and think deeper into the plot and story.
